Another breed variant as made with a process called “crossbreeding” between poodles and others purebreds, in this case labrador. These variants are called “doodles” or “labradoodles”.
The first doodle was the result of a crossbreed between the purebreds of labrador and poodle, made by an expert breeder from Australia, in the late 80’s. His purpose was to satisfy the need of a blind woman who had a husband allergic to the dog’s fur (poodles does not lose their fur hair). When Wally Conron announced his discover, the covers of many newspapers started to talk about him, with photos of Wally with his dogs (see previous fig.).
Breeders decided to try other crossbreeds between poodles and other dogs, with the purpose to satisfy the people that wanted a poodle, but suffered of fur allergy.
None of these crossbreeds are recognized as a real breed. Breeders make a great profit by selling them to people that ignore all the health problems these dogs will have to deal with, during their lives. Recently, crossbreeds between poodles and golden retrievers, the so-called goldendoodles, are increasing.
Wally Conron himself, during an interview, said that his creation of the labradoodle was a mistake and that he had a lots of regrets.
