How much does a poodle cost?

Generally, a small poodle cost around 1.000-1.500 $, including health tests and pedigree. The price may increase if you buy a toy poodle. In the general cost, you have to consider also the expenses for the food, the kennel and some toys. Do not buy toys or other things that are not strictly necessary.

What is a pedigree?

A pedigree is an official paper which reports the poodle ancestry. A pedigree does not give you the security of some particular skills, unless the dog has some ancestors that won prizes during some competitions.

Male or female? Small or Toy?

Once you have decided to buy a poodle, you may be wondering about taking a male or a female, a small poodle or a toy poodle. Regarding the first issue, it is important you remember that, generally, a male poodle is more affectionate and learn faster than a female, while the females tend to tolerate solitude more than males.

Another dilemma regards his size: Smaller sizes are more loved by people. It is impossible to know exactly which size a dog will become. For this reason, pedigrees never indicate the size.

Despite this, a toy poodle is way more expensive than a normal or small poodle. He also requires more health checks due to his size.

Toys do not require the same amount of physical exercise as the normal or small poodle. The fact he is named “toy” does not mean he is an actual toy! On the contrary, toy poodle is a smart and affectionate dog.
